Lisa Zilko has worked as a Clinical Psychologist with children, adolescents, caregivers, and adults for over 20 years. Her skills and knowledge have been developed through working at key Western Australian services, including Princess Margaret Hospital for Children (PMH), the community Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), the Child Protection Unit Therapy Service (CPU) at Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH), and in private practice.
As a Clinical Psychologist, Lisa provided assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental health conditions in children in community settings, both in rural areas as far as Esperance and closer to Perth in Mandurah and Rockingham. Lisa worked in these settings as part of a multidisciplinary team and developed programs to provide specialised interventions for youth with symptoms related to eating disorders, depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. She coordinated Family Therapy Reflective Teams in CAMHS clinics. Lisa has run groups for depression, anxiety, and trauma. Programs she has implemented include FRIENDS, the Sexual Abuse Treatment Program, psycho-educational programs for non-offending parents, Protective Behaviours, and the Alert Program.
In 2012, Lisa began to specialise in providing therapy for children, their families, and adults who have experienced trauma relating to neglect, physical, sexual, and emotional abuse at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, now known as Perth Children’s Hospital. It was here that Lisa developed a specialised interest and passion for enhancing her skills in the evidence-based intervention Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is the intervention she specifically focused on in her private practice while working with children, adolescents, and adults.
Lisa has been registered since 2001 with the Psychology Board of Australia and has an endorsed area of practice in Clinical Psychology under the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA, ahpra.gov.au). She is an accredited member of the EMDR Association of Australia (EMDRAA, emdraa.org). She has trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Behavioural Therapy Techniques. Lisa has continued her education in the following models of care and interventions: Neurosequential Model of Therapeutics (neurosequential.com), Family Therapy, Circle of Security, Narrative Therapy, Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, and EMDR.
