EYE MOVEMENT DESENSITISATION AND REPROCESSING (EMDR)
EMDR is an evidence-based therapy that reduces symptoms related to TRAUMA, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Complex PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, Dissociation, and other emotional difficulties.
HOW DOES EMDR WORK?
EMDR has a direct effect on the way the brain processes information, releasing emotional experiences that are trapped in the nervous system. A TRAINED THERAPIST works with the individual to recall a disturbing thought, feeling, or memory.
BILATERAL STIMULATION is used while a person recalls an image, feeling, or thought. Something you can see, hear, or touch creates bilateral stimulation when it moves side to side in a pattern; thus, moving your eyes back and forth is a bilateral stimulation. The disturbing MEMORIES ARE REPROCESSED by the brain, resulting in painful feelings being exchanged for more RESOLVED, peaceful feelings and more positive, adaptive beliefs.
